“All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking.” ~Friedrich Nietzsche
The quality of your thoughts affects the decision that you make and your decisions determine the quality of your life.
With more vibrant thoughts you can be more creative and create more positive change in your life.
So let’s get straight to it, here are 5 Smart Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Thinking.
1. Get Moving for 20 Minutes First Thing in the Morning
“An active mind cannot exist in an inactive body.” ~General George Patton
I first read this profound tip from the late, great, copywriter Gary Halbert in his book The Boron Letters.
Whenever I apply this wisdom to my day I benefit from it all day long.
Even this morning I went for a walk to the beach and as I sit here writing I have a sharp sense of clarity and my thoughts are flowing through my fingers like the blood is flowing through my veins.
Below is a graphic that illustrates this point perfectly by showing the difference in the activity in your brain when sitting, compared with the activity in your brain after 20 minutes of walking.
I found the graphic above from an interesting infographic called The Science of Happiness.
2. Keep Moving Throughout the Day
Set a timer to go off every half hour or so and when it does get up and do some form of activity for the next few minutes.
Invest in a chin up bar and do some chin ups, or drop down to the ground and do some push-ups and sit-ups.
If your body becomes lethargic so will your mind so keep your body moving and your mind will follow suit.
Consider buying a dog as this will give you a reason to get out for a walk with the dog every day.
3. Drink Coffee and Water
Coffee is a stimulant and can keep your heart elevated throughout the day so the blood flow to your brain keeps pumping and your mind stays alert and active.
Coffee can be a great thing to help keep you sharp but can also lead to dehydration (coffee is a diuretic) and sleep deprivation, two things that will harm your brain’s health.
To avoid dehydration make sure to drink water throughout the day and at least one glass of water for every glass of coffee.
To avoid sleep deprivation I have found that 6PM is the magic time for stopping caffeine intake if I want to get to sleep at a decent hour.
Not a coffee drinker? No problem, try green tea for a less intense caffeine boost to help you stay sharp.
4. Surround Yourself With Quality Thoughts
The thoughts you expose yourself will unavoidably influence the way you think so be careful about who and what you allow into your mind.
A habit I’ve developed this year that has been a great benefit to me is to listen to at least one podcast a day, while I make myself breakfast in the morning.
Using discretion about who you are friends with will help you shape who you are. Cut toxic people out of your life because their toxicity will damage you.
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with
The people you friend, follow, and like on social media are also important to consider.
Social Media makes it possible to surround yourself with thoughts from whoever you want.
Surround yourself with millionaires and soon you’ll start thinking like a millionaire too.
Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future
5. Write and Share Your Thoughts in a Daily Email Newsletter
Writing is a great way to clarify and communicate your thoughts.
The best way to get better at writing is to write often.
Sharing what you write with others causes you to improve faster since it creates pressure to perform that causes you to step up your game.
Launching and writing my daily newsletter has been the best thing I have ever done to improve the quality of my thoughts, the quality of my writing and the quantity of income I have been able to earn online.
In my flagship product the Social Media Income Lab I reveal that my #1 secret to sustainable income with social media is to:
“Use Every Social Media Channel You Have to Send Traffic to a Squeeze Page And Grow Your Email List.”
Email is the original form of social media and the famous Internet Marketing saying still holds true today that “The Money is in The List.”
But if you don’t email often you are leaving money on the table. Emailing often helps you build rapport with your subscribers and enables you to become the trusted expert in your niche.
And when you’re the trusted expert people will be willing to pay more to do business with you.
For more information on using Social Media and Email Marketing to increase your income I strongly suggest you check out the Social Media Income Lab.
